Cleanroom
SMS employees took a break from their normal experiments to construct a new cleanroom that houses the nanocoining pilot line and nanoimprint lithography (NIL) equipment. This facility offers superior temperature control and dust suppression. Check out this video showing a timelapse of the cleanroom construction.
Other Facilities & Equipment
Smart Material Solutions, Inc. is located in an 1,800-square-foot facility in Raleigh, North Carolina with both office and lab space. The lab houses equipment including:
Custom indenting equipment: nanocoining pilot line (a custom diamond-turning CNC lathe and indenting platform), ultrasonic resonant actuators, diamond dies, and photonic vibration sensors.
Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) tools: custom NIL tool, spin coater, desiccator, and hot plates.
Machining and fabrication tools: milling machine, bandsaw, and standard tools.
Metrology equipment: optical microscopes, capacitance gage, and a primitive UV-Vis setup.
SMS also has an agreement with the Analytical Instrumentation Facility (AIF) and the NCSU Nanofabrication Facility (NNF) for the use of nanofabrication and nanocharacterization equipment including microscopes (FIB/SEM, AFM, confocal microscope), a nanoimprinter, reactive ion etchers (RIE), and photolithography equipment.
